Fucitalmic (Fusidic acid) eye drops - is an antibacterial drug for the treatment of eye infections caused by sensitive microorganisms (conjunctivitis, keratitis, blepharitis, dacryocystitis). Fusidic acid is an antimicrobial compound, the mechanism of its action is the violation of protein synthesis in the bacterial cell, resulting in its death.

Fusidic acid belongs to the group of fusidins, antimicrobial compounds whose mechanism of action is associated with a violation of protein synthesis in a bacterial cell. By blocking the elongation of factor G, they prevent its binding to ribosomes and guanosine triphosphate, which interrupts the release of the energy necessary for protein synthesis and leads to the death of the bacterial cell.

It is active against microorganisms, which most often cause eye infections:

  • Staphylococcus aureus.
  • Streptococcus pneumoniae.
  • Haemophilus influenzae.
  • Enterobacteriaciae and Pseudomonas spp. resistant to the action of fusidic acid.

Pharmacokinetics

The drug dosage form (viscous eye drops) provides long-term contact with the conjunctiva and a sufficient concentration of fusidic acid in the lacrimal fluid under the condition of application 2 times / day.

After 1, 3, 6 and 12 hours after a single application of Fucitalmic, the average concentration of fusidic acid in the lacrimal fluid is 15.7; 15.2; 10.5 and 5.6 μg / ml, respectively. In the intraocular fluid, the concentration of fusidic acid equal to 0.3 μg / ml (after a single application) and 0.8 μg / ml (after repeated use) is achieved within 1 hour after application and is maintained for at least 12 hours, with fusidic acid in the serum is not determined.

Indications:

Treatment of bacterial infections of the eyes caused by microorganisms sensitive to the preparation:

  • Conjunctivitis.
  • Blepharitis.
  • Keratitis.
  • Dacryocystitis.

Contraindications:

  • Preservative (benzalkonium chloride) is a potential allergen.

Special instructions:

The tube must be closed after each use. Do not touch the tip to the eye.

It is not recommended to wear contact lenses during the application of Fucitalmic, as its components can cause clouding of the lens.

Impact on the ability to drive vehicles and manage mechanisms

In the event of blurred vision after instillation, it is necessary to refrain from driving vehicles and practicing potentially dangerous activities that require an increased concentration of attention and speed of psychomotor reactions, until vision is restored.

Side effects:

From the side of the organ of vision: in rare cases - allergic reactions (in the form of edema of the follicles of the transitional fold of the conjunctiva and urticaria); itching, burning, congestion hyperemia, soreness, lacrimation, eyelid edema, exacerbation of conjunctivitis.

Therapy Fucitalmic should be discontinued in case of signs of hypersensitivity to the drug.

Suggested Use:

1 drop in the conjunctival sac of the affected eye 2 times / day for 7 days.

In the absence of positive dynamics within 7 days of drug use, therapy should be reviewed using other medications.
